Advanced Placement Program

AP Teachers


The Advanced Placement program at La Puente High School offers 14 subjects as part of the school’s master schedule. LPHS adds new offerings based on student student input and requests for additional subjects.

In 2012, LPHS won Honorable Mention in the Gaston Caperton Inspiration Award Competition. This award recognizes schools for “Fostering Academic Excellence and Access for All Students.” La Puente High School has been recognized as a top school for its work supporting and promoting the College Board position of “Education Equity” and making all courses available to all students who have an interest in accepting the rigor and format of AP courses.

Almost 31% of LPHS students are involved with Advanced Placement courses.  The number of students enrolling in AP classes has increased in in recent years. Advanced Placement teachers at LPHS have also increased the percentage of students passing their AP exams with a score of 3 or better. The Advanced placement program at LPHS also supports students who wish to test in areas that are not formally offered at the school such as in Chinese Language.

Advanced Placement courses are designed by a committee of “university faculty and experienced AP teachers” to “correspond to and be modeled after college and university courses”. The College Board oversees schools offering AP courses through a program titled the AP Audit Process. The process evaluates, and verifies, that the teachers at LPHS are properly guided and trained.

Subsequently, all AP teachers at LPHS have submitted their course syllabi for review by the College Board and have attended AP Summer Institutes to assist in the instruction of AP students. All AP teachers and corresponding AP courses have been approved by the College Board through the AP Audit Process and meet the UC-CSU Requirements for a-g course approval.
